THE SILVER SPOON
The old man used a walker, so he was slow up the ramp to the restaurant. His wife walked in front of him grimacing, her hands covering her ears. The walker scratched and grated against the concrete. “I can’t stand the sound,” the wife said.

Thank you to the stranger who gave me a dollar on the street. And thank you to the stranger who minutes later gave me four quarters for that dollar so that I could pay for parking. I am sincerely grateful.

I was at a fancy Gossip Girl-type party having a bad time. Finally I decided to leave. On my way out one of the kids barfed, scooped up his barf, and flung it at me like a monkey!
A health scare has the effect of magnifying physical imperfections which usually go unnoticed. McDonald’s has this effect too. Dealing with a health scare, even minor, while dining at a McDonald’s is a potent look in the mirror.
